What’s the Difference Between a Web Developer, a Programmer, and a Webmaster – Practical Advice

Most people have a tough time outsourcing programming or development work because it’s highly technical, and most people don’t understand it. That’s normal.

So, to make things easier for you, I’m going to explain here in this video the difference between a webmaster, a web developer, and a programmer. I know a lot of people want to outsource these jobs, but they don’t know how because they can’t tell the difference.

  • Webmasters are people who take care of your website. But this term isn’t really used anymore—it’s essentially obsolete. If you use a CRM for your website, a virtual assistant can take care of it. If you need to have a website built, you look for a web developer.
  • Web developers can build websites from scratch using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. They focus on the website’s functions. That’s why they often work with a web designer to make your site look good.
  • Programmers are completely different. They make custom applications or custom code for websites. They use programming languages like Python, PHP, and Ruby. They don’t build websites. Some programmers can build websites, and some web developers have programming skills. But it’s best to hire the right person with the right skill set—especially when it comes to tasks like this.

Now that you know the difference, do you want to know how to hire a web developer or programmer if you’re not a technical person? Watch the video until the end to find out.

Hiring for skill is just the beginning. If you want to find the right VA, web dev, or programmer for your business, check out OneVAAway.com and take the 7-day hiring challenge. For only $49, I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of finding the right Filipino workers.
