When it comes to benefits that you should give your OFS (Online Filipino Specialist), you have a lot of options.
First and foremost, there’s the 13th month. It’s not legally required but it’s something you should do because it’s something most Filipino expect when they have a full-time job and it’s a great motivator. And it doesn’t cost much. It’s only an extra month’s salary and pro-rated, so you can easily include it in your business cost.
Another benefit you can give is Philhealth. It’s a form of socialized medicine that helps them get discounted medical care. It costs around $15/month.
There’s also SSS, which is their social security. This is where they get their other benefits, like maternity and unemployment.
Pag-Ibig is a socialized housing loan. It’s one of those things they would want to have but not everybody needs it. So ask their VAs if this something that they want.
Another thing I offer my OFS (Online Filipino Specialist) is paid time off and holidays. I don’t put a limit to it. As soon as they get things done (and they let me know beforehand), they can get paid time off as often as they need. If you’re not comfortable with that, you can set limits to it. But in my experience, my workers have never abused this benefit.
A new benefit I’ve offered my workers in the past few years is health insurance. We got a health insurance provider so they can have most of their medical care covered. They’ve used it for their medical needs and it doesn’t really cost me much.
Offering benefits to your Filipino workers goes a long way in motivating them and inspiring loyalty. I talk about this and more in my book, the Outsourcing Lever. I am giving away physical copies, you just need to pay for shipping. There, I’ll show you how outsourcing changed my life and business and how it can change yours too.

Hi Jonas, Definitely agree on these benefits which are mostly paid by Freelancers 100% as self-individual or self-voluntary. When employers do cover them 100% it is very helpful for us Freelancers, but employers could also cover 50% as a share since it’s the natural way in local companies to atleast have a share on these benefits.
Just want to correct and provide the correct amounts for each for the reference,
SSS – Every person earning above Php 24, 750 – monthly contribution is Php 3,250
Pag-IBIG – Atleast Php 200, Php 100 from employer and Php 100 from employees but employees has the option to increase their contribution
Philhealth – For self-employed, every person earning above Php 25,000 has Php 300 monthly contribution or Php 3,600 annual contribution and if earning below Php 25,000 is Php 200 monthly contribution or Php 2,400 annual contribution.
Also there is another benefit that mostly Freelancers missed, is filing for their Income Tax and having HMO. We do have a project where we help Freelancers coordinate with their Clients/Employer so they could share or pay for their Employee’s benefits.
Benefits include remittance to SSS, Pag-IBIG and Philhealth, Income Tax and also providing HMO.
