The great thing about Filipino workers in general is that they’re super easy to manage. They’re super loyal and super effective.
But the best advice I can give if you want to effectively manage a large team is to not have a large team when you’re just starting out. Hire your VAs one by one. Let them get used to working together as a team.
Another advantage to hiring one at a time is it gives you time to get to know them personally. Onboarding and training is more personalized. When you know your VAs well this makes them more loyal. And when you slowly build your team, you can rely on your earlier hires to help you with the onboarding process.
And as a small business owner, I admit it’s hard to set up SOPs. It was my team that helped me do that. They made it part of their job as my business started to grow.
This doesn’t mean I don’t have managers. I do. But when you know your VAs and you grow your team slowly, that’s when you see natural leaders emerge. And they’re often the best people to manage the team because they have seniority AND they know how to do the job.
- They’ve worked for me long enough to know what I want.
- They know the entire system so they know how to break it down to tasks and assign it to different members of our team through Basecamp.
- Most importantly, they know how to solve most of the issues we encounter in the business. They only come to me when there’s something that they can’t fix themselves.
You can check out our case studies to find out how other businesses with bigger teams do it. But the best place to start really, is to make sure you have your hiring process down. I’ll walk you through the process with our OneVAAway hiring challenge. I’ll show you how to hire the right Filipino VA that you can build a team around.
