Welcome to another entry for the Practical Advice series. This is a series of tips and advice sharing what I know about outsourcing, particularly, outsourcing to the Philippines.
I have talked about what people in the Philippines are good at, now I want to share what they’re not good at. This is based on my experience with Filipino VAs, of course.
I always say that whatever job that can be done online, or through a computer, or anything that doesn’t require someone to be physically present with you, a Filipino VA can do it. For them to do it how you want it, you would have to give them direction and instructions — at least at the start of your relationship.
There are only two things Filipino VAs are not good at. That is project management and creating sales processes. But in my experience, they are not good at doing these things because when you hire a project manager and fire someone to make sales processes for you, they won’t do a good job because they just don’t know you and your business yet.
My advice is that when you want someone, hire them for technical stuff first. Show them the ropes in your business. And when they know your business well enough, it’s time to give them a bigger role — like project management and making sales processes.
