No, you don’t need to.
Feel free to ignore garbage applications. Those one sentence applications. The ones who obviously don’t know what they’re doing. Ignore those. Delete them. Likely these are new to the site who are just trying things out (not serious applications) or they’re scammers.
You may also receive form or template applications. These are the people who may have read your job post but they’re sending the same application they’ve sent to every other employer. If they can’t take the time to customize their application or respond to you personally, they’re not worth your time.
Then there are those who took the time to read the job post and followed the application process but they’re obviously unqualified. You don’t need to reply to them either. It appreciates the effort but no point in replying if you know it’s not going to work.
I only respond to applications from qualified applicants who sent personalized responses
That’s when I start the email interview process. I send them a bunch of emails with questions. I copy past the questions and look at their responses. How they respond and how quickly they respond lets me narrow down the list of applicants and create a shortlist.
