I have dedicated the last six episodes to discovering the reason behind mindless work — why a task is being done mindlessly.
This drive to know the whys and whats of mindless work stemmed from an embarrassing video my OFS uploaded. It wasn’t shared with the public yet, but the fact that it was uploaded bothered me and got me thinking.
So I asked my team what they think causes mindless work to happen, and they did not disappoint. They gave me tons of ideas about what they thought the reason could be. They even shared what could work to curb mindlessness.
I want to share what I’ve done — the changes that I applied to my team — that made a significant difference in how they work.
What I did was give. I gave them:
- some of my OFS titles
- a Quality Assurance auditor
Title matters to Filipinos. A title empowers and makes them want to do everything related to their title correctly. It gives them the authority to ruffle some feathers. A title also gives a sense of job security. They are not just random people given tasks; they are your Content Manager and your Website Designer — they know what they can contribute to the business. A title gives them ownership and responsibility.
I also found that someone to check on everyone, whose job is to correct what’s being done wrong, helps. Quality assurance has done wonders on our team!
Let’s talk about these solutions a little more in this video.
