When Your OFS Can’t Take Praise or Criticism – Practical Advice

Does your Online Filipino Specialist (OFS) have low self-esteem?

Do they ever thank you for your feedback and not consider it negative criticism?

The Filipino culture is one of the most unique in the world, and it’s also challenging for many people who need to become more familiar with it.

For some reason, Filipinos don’t take feedback very well; some even take instructions as criticisms.

Here are some of the reasons why your OFS is this way:

  • Personality

Best case scenario, they’re uncomfortable with praise because they feel that they’re just doing their jobs. The praise is still appreciated but not needed.

  • Mental Health

Not everyone has acclimated to working from home; unfortunately, mental health is vilified in the Philippines and is often seen as a weakness.

  • Sexism

Like many other Asian countries, the achievements of women and girls are still considered inferior compared to men. This is why a lot of female OFSs are unable to accept praise and criticism – it’s hard to accept praise when you feel all your work is never enough.

I can understand how frustrating it is to deal with an OFS who, regardless of all your efforts to build their self-esteem and help them see they have value and are capable, doesn’t seem to get it.
