Education is indeed essential. But your job may have a different idea of what skills you need.
You get these skills on the job — when you are actually there, doing what you must do. It is through hands-on experience that you learn. This is when you know something is working for you or if you need to tweak your style to be more productive.
This is the same as Online Filipino Specialists. You might encounter OFSs with certain training under their belt — VA Training, Social Media Training, Web Design Training — take those with a grain of salt.
These certifications don’t mean they already know how to do what you expect them to do. You see, some of those trainings teach how to get their foot in the door, but leave out how to actually do the work. There are those who have taken advantage of this which promises VA work is easy work and have left some new VAs unprepared.
The bottom line is, whether your OFSs know what they’re doing or not, it would be wise to train them on the way you want to do things in your business. It would be a win-win for everyone. Invest some time to make sure that they know what you’re expecting from them, so everything runs smoothly.
We’re working on a solution for this. I’ll tell you more about it in this episode.
This practical advice is just one of many we have on our blog. Head on to our outsourcing education page to catch the whole series.
I’m also giving away a free book about how you can hire people from the Philippines to work on your business. It’s The Outsourcing Lever, and it’s free; you just have to pay for shipping!
