Ethan Kap’s outsourcing story is amazing. I relate to him so much because:
- we both have very technical businesses,
- we have been outsourcing for just as long, and
- we have fairly large teams of Filipino virtual assistants.
To give you a bit of background, Ethan works in the finance industry. He has 2 companies and he has a team of 22 Filipino VAs helping him run his businesses. And he’s been outsourcing for over 10 years. He started out with 1 VA. Now he has 22 who does everything from preparing financial statements to answering his phone.
Working in finance, you’d think it would be difficult to find people in the Philippines to do that work. Even if you could, the prospect is still terrifying for some because they can’t imagine trusting their finances to someone living on the other side of the globe.
Ethan had these same fears when he was starting out. But realized he can’t grow his business if he doesn’t take that leap of faith. He’s also smart enough to know that you don’t have to take that outsourcing leap on blind faith alone. He learned from other people, created a system in place so his VAs know what to do, and built a company culture that rewards loyalty and good work.
There’s a lot of great Filipino talent out there just waiting to be hired. Like Ethan, once you have a system in place, it becomes easier to find the right person for complex, technical jobs. There may even come a point where the first thing you would ask yourself when hiring a new employee, “Is this something we can outsource to a Filipino VA?”. That’s how Ethan and I do it now. And our businesses are so much better for it.
