In 2007, I hired a programmer and decided he could also be my designer. He is still with me today.
Programming and design don’t usually go together. You have one person for programming and another for design. I didn’t know that before. But now I do.
Anyway, graphic design is something that every business could benefit from, especially now when people we want to connect to are all on social media.
So what should you look for in a designer?
I asked Elijah, the OnlineJobs.ph resident graphic designer, for his thoughts. Hopefully, what he has to say can steer you in the right direction.
“It’s pretty. The number one misconception for designers or video editors is that every design has to look beautiful, or every video has to have fancy text and motion graphics. Some brands and clients seek simplicity and minimalism—some mediums gear towards minimal editing like TikTok.
In other words, when hiring, employers should not just look for creativity but versatility.
Can this person adapt to my brand? Is this person stuck with one style of editing and creating? If possible, look at their portfolio and see how they change their classes with different clients. If the style is consistent, the artist may not be able to adapt to different brands and mediums.”
Straight from a designer’s mouth — what you have to look for other than skills is adaptability. Flexibility. Versatility.
