Top 3 Tips to Make Sure I Hire A Great VA – Practical Advice

Here are my top 3 tips for hiring a great virtual worker from the Philippines. I actually have more than 3 tips but here are the ones to get you started on the right path.

  • Define your role

Most people make the mistake of hiring, let’s say, a programmer because they know how to use this one specific API. That’s a good start but what you need for your business is a programmer, not just someone who knows how to use a specific tool. They’re a great starting point but they shouldn’t be the main requirements for when you hire. Look for general skills that your worker would need in order for them to fulfill that role.

pexels-fauxels-3183183Like, if you’re hiring a social media manager, it doesn’t matter if they’re not experts in using Buffer or Hootsuite. They can learn how to do that. What’s more important is that they can write engaging content or anticipate trends or they know how to create social media marketing strategies. Those are the skills they need to do that job.

The role here is what they’ll do in your business and look for general skills that they need to fulfil.

  • Do your own interview

This is related to why I don’t do reviews on Onlinejobs.ph. Reviews are not a substitute for an actual interview. If you see a lot of reviews on Onlinejobs.ph for a worker, even if they’re good reviews, that’s a red flag for me. A lot of reviews means they don’t stick around. They don’t want to work full-time.

Reviews are not a substitute to doing your own hiring and interview. Don’t rely on them. If you want, I can guide you through the hiring process with OneVAAway. For only $49, you’ll know the step by step process I use to hire a great VA.

  • Ask a lot of questions

You’re hiring a person. Their personality is going to factor in how well you’re going to work together. Yeah, portfolios are important. But you got to ask a lot of questions to see how well you communicate with them. You want to know if you’re going to get along with them. How they reply is also going to tell you whether they’re really interested. Their answer will show you if they really have the knowledge and experience they claim to have.

Everybody is just one virtual assistant away from changing their lives. I know these 3 tips are not enough. So check out OneVAAway.com to get more. Hi Amir,

Thank you for your comment. I’m glad that you are happy with your VA

One of the factors is communication. Usually, workers have second-thoughts in sharing with their employers, and that is present due to cultural differences or not wanting to misunderstand one another and such.

As long as there is an open communication where you and the worker are open to changes & are available when needed, then the working relationship will grow stronger too
