Successful employers have a team of highly competitive and efficient online Filipino specialists working tirelessly on backend admin tasks. Is there a bigger secret to success than that?
Indeed there is. Efficiency will take your team far. But that’s not the end-all and be-all of it. You need to look out for potential reasons why a working relationship might fail. And then prevent it from happening as much as it’s in your control to do so.
When a working relationship with someone you’ve hired fails, it’s going to hurt your business. Tasks go undone, deadlines have to be moved, and your clients end up dissatisfied. It also hurts you as a business owner. You now have to go back to the hiring and recruitment process, keeping you away from other important work that requires your focus.
This begs the question: why do employees lose interest in their work? And how can you, as the business owner, ensure that your employees remain loyal and trustworthy?
We found that the answer to this is quite simple: exercise empathy.
A lot of successful employers are empathetic to their employees’ needs.
We all go through stuff in our personal lives that may require immediate attention. Our families and loved ones may need our attention as much as our jobs and businesses do. And for Filipinos, helping a family member out at a time of dire need is a no-brainer. You can never tell them not to be there for their family because family is at the center of almost every Filipino’s life. You will surely encounter some days wherein your OFS isn’t available to work because their presence is needed by a loved one.
Implementing a ‘no work, no pay’ policy in these scenarios is a surefire way to lose your OFS.
They’ll find a way to still be there for their loved ones while doing the work you require.
But they’ll also start looking around for other work opportunities, i.e. a better offer with a better employer.
What should you do, then?
Give them the time that they need to take care of their personal business with the assurance that it won’t affect their job security or their pay. They will appreciate the fact that you can empathize with their situation, and will most likely apply the Filipino concept of utang na loob or debt of gratitude. Utang na loob is a sense of obligation that Filipinos feel which obliges them to return a favor they owe to someone who has done a good deed for them. It’s another intrinsic part of the Filipino culture.
Your OFS would also be highly appreciative of the fact that you empathize with their plight. So they will surely take care of your business as much as they care for their loved ones. You’re considered family now.
Successful employers can ask for nothing more than being cared for by an OFS like family.
Your business is in the best hands then.
You were probably expecting a different answer other than empathy. And yes, being driven and having a Type A personality is a huge part of success. But if you want your success to be backed by loyal and trustworthy people who can someday grow to lead your business, empathy is the key.
Otherwise, you might just wake up one day and realize that your OFS has already disappeared. Read our Comprehensive Guide on Disappearing Filipinos for more insights on how to take better care of your OFS.
