How Do I Protect My Data With My OFS? – Practical Advice

It’s time for another practical outsourcing advice!

Data breaches are always in the news. Today, most companies take cyber security very seriously and go to great lengths to keep their data safe.  How about small business owners like us? How do we protect our data when outsourcing?

Data security is frequently one of the key concerns for business owners who consider outsourcing as an option for their operations.

Some data breaches are mostly an oversight, not an intentional theft. So I stopped stressing about something I don’t have control of and started taking precautions.

When you outsource, you have to give your people access to your stuff to work. That’s the dynamic. My team is composed of people I deeply trust; some of them have been with me since the beginning, some are new, but I trust them all the same.

Here are some steps you can take towards protecting your data when working with OFSs:

  1. Hire someone who has their own computer, or provide a computer.
  2. Let them know how vital data breach really is.
  3. Use a password manager.
  4. Have them sign a contract.
  5. Sign them up for a VPN.
  6. Give access gradually.
