Onlinejobs.ph Social Media Expert Wins Award

The OnlineJobs.ph team is ecstatic. Our social media expert, Julia just won an award. Yey!

Here’s a picture of her carrying her 5 kilo trophy.

Julia Sta. Romana

“I want to thank La Salle University for the honor they bestowed upon me and GMA News Online for giving me a platform to express my opinion. This wouldn’t have been possible if i didn’t have a career as an online worker. Working at OnlineJobs.ph is such a fulfilling experience because it allows me to pursue my passion and still have a job that supports my family.”

After posting that photo, she was bombarded with our comments and chat messages of pizza and balloons. We’ve always known that Julia was a great writer, and this award was just additional proof of her talent.

Flashback

I referred Julia to John back in 2011. At that time she has just given birth to Bianca. She had just stopped working for a BPO company and wanted to earn, but didn’t want to leave her baby to a nanny. That’s when I suggested she work online.

Bianca, all grown up at 5 years old.

She was a bit skeptic, but knowing that I’ve been working with John and Onlinejobs.ph for years, she was willing to give it a try. That same day, I wrote John an email and asked if he was looking for a writer. And since I was referring my sister, and her credentials were great, he immediately hired her.

Because her work was now online, she was able to leave Manila and go back to Davao, which was the best place to raise a child.

She was also able to do other things. She was a graduate of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from UP Diliman, but she has always loved writing. And the time flexibility allowed her to be a contributor for GMA News Online. She wrote about tech and Mindanao News. Every now and then, she would write about issues that really struck her, just like her award-winning piece, “Smart-Shaming and our Culture of Anti-Intellectualism.”

Working for Onlinejobs.ph

Julia started out as a writer for OnlineJobs. She has written some of the awesome articles you’ve been reading on the blog. Because improvement is encouraged in our jobs, she later learned social media management and has been doing great ever since. She is now a Hootsuite Ambassador, and is the person posting updates and replying to your messages on facebook and twitter.

She runs several campaigns to target both employers and virtual assistants. Together with John and other members of the team, we brainstorm and recommend activities we do to make interacting on social media more fun. She’s also one of those responsible on humanizing the Onlinejobs team, introducing them to the everyone as the real people that we are, with dreams, families and a productive life.

The Balance of Life, Career and Passion

Julia has always been a caring big sister. She was the type who would bring me home goodies when we were young. And today, you can see the amount of care she puts in for her family. She’s on top of everything in the house and helps Bianca with homework every school day.

During her spare time, she would participate in advocacies. She’s also the Project Manager of Digibak, a project under Dakila that focuses on Internet Rights and Freedom. On top of that, she still finds time to help me whenever I’m stuck in a rut.

When you see her, you know she’s truly happy with what she’s doing with her life. She once told me, “I’m honestly content with my life.” Content is a strong word, and she was confident enough to use it to describe how she feels with her life.

Convincing her not to go back to her old job and work with me under Onlinejobs.ph is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. I hope it makes up for every single childhood day when I was a pain in the ass little sister.

With or without the award, I’m truly proud of her. Congratulations Julia!
