You know you need to get along with the person for the best chance of success.

So, how do you figure out which one of these candidates would be the best person for the job?

Easy. Look at their DISC profile scores.

The best DISC scores for the job.

Hiring someone with the same personality type as you isn’t always the best fit.

If you force a job on the wrong personality type, the person you hire will likely be ineffective and miserable.

Below is a table where we compiled several jobs and the ideal DISC types for each job. We labeled which personality type is more likely to be introverted or extroverted so you can anticipate their communication style. Your hire should preferably have the 2 DISC types listed as their dominant types.

Several personality types can work in any position. But knowing what personality type should dominate and their communication style will make it easier to determine whether they’d be a good fit for the job AND your business.

You can take note of this with each OFS you hire. Identify which ones need a bit of small talk, which ones are less likely to speak in a group meeting, which ones need time before they respond to you, etc.

You should also take the DISC personality test to find out your score. Knowing your DISC personality scores will give you insights into how you work and communicate with others. This helps you adjust your communication style when interviewing and know what to look for to find the person that best fits the job.

Once you start working with your OFS and know the DISC profile, you’ll know how to encourage them to speak up and motivate them to do better.

How does DISC help you find the right personality for the job?

Ever wonder why some people are brilliant, skilled, and talented but seem bad at certain things?

That’s because it’s not just about intelligence, skill, or experience. Specific jobs suit certain personality types.

Take business owners, for example.

We’re all different, but you’ll find most of us assertive and outgoing. Most are quick decision-makers and very results-oriented people. These are the ones with the high Dominance or High D personality types.

High dominance personality types are best suited for starting, running, and growing a business. It’s not that other personality types can’t be successful business owners. It’s just that those who have High D personalities thrive in this type of work.

This is the reason why some jobs have stereotypes. Being an entrepreneur is different from being an accountant. Entrepreneurs must see the bigger picture, while accountants must focus on the details. Writers need to be creative and imaginative, while programmers focus more on structure and need excellent problem-solving skills.

Extroverted vs introverted personality types

Most personality types can be divided into 2 broad categories: extroverts and introverts.

Extroverts are usually more communicative. It doesn’t take a lot of prodding to get them to talk and respond. Most extroverts have high Dominance and high Influence scores. Even though both personality types find it easy to communicate, they do have slight differences.

High-dominance personalities thrive on other people’s energy, but they also like communication to be clear, concise, and to the point.

On the other hand, those with high Influence personalities like small talk and storytelling. They can personally connect with groups and want to know what other people are feeling and express their feelings.

High Steadiness (High S) and Compliance (High C) scores are usually more introverted. This means getting them to respond and initiate conversations will take more work.

High Compliance personalities are similar to high Dominance personalities when it comes to communication. Both prefer conversations that are clear and straight to the point. But unlike High D personalities, it takes them a while to respond because they like to think things through and make sure they’re being accurate before they respond.

Many Filipinos have high steadiness (high S) scores, which is one reason they are great workers. People with high Steadiness personalities are patient, reliable, and persistent.

Like high Influence personalities, they want a personal connection. This is why establishing trust is important when working with an OFS. They want open communication. They like it when they feel like you care and you’re concerned about their well-being.

However, unlike high Influence personalities, they prefer to be one-on-one rather than in a group. I think this is why sending a daily report has worked really well for us as a communication system. It lets your OFS feel like they have your complete attention without having to interact with a big group like in a meeting.

If you want to dig deeper into this, check out my interview with Mandy Keane. It’s a bit long, but it’s worth watching. She has 22 years of experience in coaching people on how to use DISC for hiring. It’s over an hour long, but it’s really good.
